Following the recommendations of the Crawford Report, football in Australia underwent significant governance and structural reform aimed at strengthening grassroots development, improving administration, and creating clearer pathways for players, coaches, and referees.
As part of these reforms, three football zones were established within the Northern Territory to support local competition delivery and community development across the vast geographic regions of the Territory.
These zones are responsible for the administration and delivery of football competitions within their respective geographical areas, as well as the development of players, coaches, and referees. The zone programs underpin Territory-wide initiatives delivered by Football NT, providing pathways into representative and elite development programs across the Northern Territory.
Northern Zone Boundaries

The Central Zone includes Katherine, Nhulunbuy (Gove), Borroloola, and surrounding regions.
The Central Zone supports football participation and development opportunities across regional and remote communities, providing important pathways into Territory-wide programs and competitions.

The Southern Zone is centred around Alice Springs and surrounding Central Australian communities.
The zone supports football competitions, development programs, and regional participation opportunities across Central Australia, contributing to the broader football pathway network across the Northern Territory.
