At Football NT, in partnership with Football Australia, we are committed to identifying, developing, and supporting the next generation of Territory talent.

Our pathway programs provide players, coaches, and families with a clear development journey, from foundational skill development through to state and national representation.

All Football NT pathway programs are built around four key pillars designed to develop well-rounded athletes and people.

Technical Development

DEVELOPMENT CENTRES (U8 TO U13)

 The Football NT Development Centres are designed to support players during the “Golden Age” of skill development, providing a high-quality learning environment aligned with Football Australia principles. 

These programs help players transition from grassroots football into future elite pathway opportunities. 

Commitment 

  • 3 term training blocks available 
  • Up to two sessions per week available 
  • Delivered in addition to regular club training and matches

FOOTBALL NT TALENT PATHWAYS

Our Talent Pathway programs provide high-performance environments for the Territory’s most promising players, bridging the gap between club football and national opportunities. 

FOOTBALL AUSTRALIA TDS (U14 TO U16)

The Football Australia Talent Development Scheme (TDS) is delivered in partnership with Football Australia and focuses on identifying players with national team potential. 

Program Features 

  • National Team coaches and Football Australia staff travel to the Northern Territory to assess local talent 
  • Exposure to national pathway environments 
  • High-level training and assessment opportunities 

Commitment 

  • 4 to 6 week training block 
  • Up to two sessions per week alongside club commitments 
  • Participation in a Football Australia TDS match event

EMERGING TDS PROGRAM (U14 TO U16)

The Emerging TDS Program is the primary selection pathway for players aiming to represent Football NT at Emerging Championships and other representative events. 

The program is designed to prepare players for the demands of representative football and high-performance environments. 

Commitment 

  • 3 term training block plus one interstate tournament per year 
  • Up to three training sessions per week alongside club commitments 
  • Athletic Development Training 
  • Technical & Tactical Training 
  • Individual Development Sessions

EMERGING FUTSAL NATIONALS (U14 TO U16)

Emerging Futsal Nationals (U14 to U16) 

The Emerging Futsal Nationals program is the direct pathway to the National Futsal Championships held each January. 

Selection 

Players are identified through: 

  • Futsal Identification Tournaments 
  • Local futsal competitions 
  • Ongoing Talent ID processes 

Commitment 

  • 1 term training block plus one interstate tournament per year 
  • Up to two training sessions per week alongside club commitments 
  • Technical & Tactical Training

  • Advanced technical development 
  • Tactical understanding 
  • Athletic performance 
  • Match decision-making 
  • Professional habits and behaviours

SELECTION PROCESS FOR PATHWAY PROGRAMS

Players shortlisted through the EOI process will be invited to trials and club assessments. 

Selection is based on: 

  • Current Performance 
  • Commitment & Consistency 
  • Long-Term Potential 

ONGOING TALENT IDENTIFICATION

Talent ID is ongoing throughout the year. Players not initially selected will continue to be monitored through club football, futsal competitions, and Football NT identification activities. 

COACH & FOOTBALL STAFF EOI

Football NT is also seeking passionate and committed coaches and support staff to contribute to our pathway programs. 

We are looking for people who are motivated to create positive, high-quality development environments for Territory players.

Experience & Qualifications 

Appropriate coaching licences, experience, and a strong development background. 

Philosophy Alignment 

Commitment to the Football NT and Football Australia player development vision. 

Player Development 

Ability to improve technical, tactical, and personal development outcomes. 

Professionalism 

Strong communication, reliability, availability, and professional standards. 

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview and/or practical coaching assessment.
